Ellen Lambert Murphy Memorial Community Center
Annual Report FY 2017-2018
The ELMM Community Center would like to express its gratitude and appreciation to our voters and taxpayers for generously subsidizing youth recreation. We are so grateful for the many young adults, parents and retired who volunteered their time and energy for the youth of our community.
Our two boards made of local community members, The Board of Incorporators and The Board of Trustees, donate their time and vision into supporting the goals of the E.L.M.M.C.C. as well as it’s three employees. Mike Rurka, our maintenance man, worked diligently on the property this year and continues to improve the standard of our grounds and spaces. His attention to detail is second to none. Wayne Bruhmuller, the Sports Director, has maintained high participation in the youth sports and continues to work to add new programs to our busy athletics schedule. In February of 2018, Jessica Wright-Moore accepted the Office Coordinator position. She comes to us with experience in hospitality and media, and is excited to be a part of the E.L.M.M. team.
Wayne continues to improve the athletics program. He has added new programs in Winter Basketball, with 13 players, and Girls Softball, with 16 players, while maintaining numbers in Fall Soccer with 84 players from K-6th grades. Spring Baseball increased its numbers drastically to 91 players from K-6th grade. Summer Hoops, a 6 week basketball program during the summer months, had 26 players from 9th grade to adult. Youth Firearm Safety returned this year in collaboration with Cheshire County Fish & Game, had 10 participants. There were about 40 volunteers who helped with the programs. Kiwanis made a generous donation to our Baseball Program that allowed us to make major field improvements to the infield and dugouts.
Although we only have one bowling league currently, we are always open to those that are interested in starting a regular league.
During our February and April Vacation Camps, campers enjoyed on site activities and events such a Magic Show, Reptile Show, and an Artistic Workshop with Linda Peck. Campers also went on field trips to Legoland, Montshire Museum, and the Historical Society’s Archaeological Show. For the second year, the E.L.M.M. partnered with A.C.C.E.S.S. for Summer Camp. It was a successful collaboration and we look forward to working together to provide an active and safe place for kids to spend their summer.
The E.L.M.M. Community Center hosts and supports the missions of local organizations such as Cheshire County Fish & Game, Girl Scouts of Green and White Mountain, Boy Scouts of America, Home Healthcare and Hospice, the Monadnock Tri County Dance Club, Ashuelot Headstart, Mt. Pisgah Sportsman’s Club and the Winchester Woman’s Club. Senior Age In Motion classes, Senior foot clinics and blood pressure Clinics, turkey raffles, Easter egg hunts, Christmas Bazaar, blood drives, and Kiwanis Halloween costume contest are regular events E.L.M.M.
In June of 2018, the E.L.M.M. celebrated its 80thAnniversary with a great event we called Murphy Day, in honor of Governor Francis Murphy. Including this event, our facilities have been utilized for events of all kinds this year. From weddings, to memorial services, to family reunions, birthday parties and more, our spaces can accommodate a wide range of uses. The bowling alley is always available for private functions, as is the auditorium and Ruth Coffin Room. Rental fees associated with rentals help to offset the operating costs associated with running such a large facility and help us provide programs to our residents at as low a cost a cost as possible. We believe that Governor Francis Murphy wanted the space to be loved and appreciated. Our website has more information about our facility: www.elmmcenter.org.
The Ellen Lambert Murphy Memorial Community Center is constantly working to promote and provide quality activities and services that will contribute to the physical, emotional and social well being of the community. We look forward to providing these programs and services for years to come.
